Full Name: Vassenia Aeaca Scipio, Empress of Atlygaea

Species: Human

Gender: Female

Age and Place of Birth: Twenty-Six [26], Indartir

Appearance:
Vassenia stands at a relatively short height of five feet, four inches tall, which leads her to carry herself taller, wear higher heels, to add to the stature she’s already lacking, in both personality and sexual stance among the kingdom. Her hair, hitting midway down her back, is often twisted into elaborate updos, hats, crowns, and things added adorning the finished product. Eyes, a startling blue, are the most vibrant feature of her face, holding all the emotion she can’t otherwise show due to traditions in their stormy depths. These are framed by ornate tattoos she’d begun to receive at the age of fifteen. As she grew, they were added to, creating the lightest of masks, and are touched up every so often to make sure they remain pristine and of good quality.

Skin, sun-kissed and smooth, wrapped her small form, despite the lack of sunlight she often received. Not overly well-endowed, she had enough to be considered appealing, still of feminine wiles, but just enough to make her frame look that little bit less fragile, often using the aid of her corsets and skirts to make things appear more so.

Her style is the height of fashion, opting for elaborate dresses, skirts, boots, and the works, piling on the finely crafted linens that were, thankfully, still breathable in their desert heat. Though she used to be one for the less showy pieces, she learned soon enough that, not dressing to the full length of her station made her look like even less in the eyes of the few who saw her. To not take advantage of what she had was seen as a slight toward the offerings of their kingdom, so she changed her style. Even if not many would see her within the palace walls, she wouldn’t do less; If it gave her any more of an inch in their eyes, she’d take it.

Family:
  • Betlilienus Drusus Scipio – Father – Deceased
  • Lucia Aeaca – Mother – Deceased
  • Sennia Aeaca – Sister – Alive and Well – Seventeen [17]

Friends:
Given her circumstance, she can never be too certain of who her true friends are. Being thrust into the spotlight, taking up the throne far younger than those before her, Vassenia took each person in her immediate circle as worth a grain of salt until they proved otherwise. The only one she considers a friend, a true friend, is her pet falcon, Titus.

Enemies:
When one is in such a position, there are a number of enemies to be wary of, to be mindful of. However, to her person specifically, not her title, there are none to speak of; Not that she’s aware of, anyway. The council handles more of the scrutiny than she, as she’s only recently began to assume her rightful place, despite the Council’s wishes for her to hold off a bit longer, until they thought she were ready.

Love Life:
None to speak of, yet. There were plans, at one point, but with all the commotion around her parent’s death, things fell through the cracks and she was happily relieved of that duty. For the moment, her love life is nonexistent, but she’s not not looking.

Likes:
  • Painting: Though this pastime of hers was frowned upon due to the level of risk there was to “soiling her garments”, she loved to paint. As a child, she’d picked it up and continued to do so, painting the sky as the sun rose, or the moon’s light basked over her kingdom. The view was often one from her own chamber’s window, but could shift, if she ventured into the city for another display she wanted no part of, or if she walked the grounds.
  • Music: It was something she often turned to when feeling stressed. At the parties she was forced to sit through (and occasionally dance at), she would focus on the music and let the rest of what was going on around her drift away as her mind wandered. Music was what made those long events bearable, and often played a part in her paintings, in their overall mood and tone.
  • Sunrises/Sunsets: As generic as some may consider this like, it’s the highlight of her day more often than not. Where her schedule is so tight, and there are always a million things pulling her attention, she doesn’t often get to leave the palace walls. The view she’s afforded when she gets up is one she’s happy to wake up to, the vibrant colors greeting her as her eyes focus, while the dying light in its cool blues lulls her to sleep nightly. It’s why she’s been known to paint them, to capture what she sees; Each is unique in her eyes and she seeks to capture their beauty for a rainy day.

Hates:
  • Stringent Schedule: Since taking up the throne, what schedule she had as princess was doubled, and, despite the overage of classes she was forced to take, the bulk of it was nothing pertinent to the kingdom. Part of her thought it was to draw out the time the council could rule without her, under the façade of age and immaturity, but she’d never voice such an opinion. Even a woman of her stature wouldn’t be so bold.
  • Unnecessary Public Displays of Wealth: Just because her family is royalty doesn’t mean she feels the shows are necessary. Parades, parties, and the like she looks down upon. It didn’t used to be so, but she’s slowly learning of the state of her cities, and the more she learns, the less she wants to rub it in their faces what she has, instead putting her efforts into figuring out a middle ground.
  • The Council: Though their work at keeping the kingdom functioning while she was “unable to do so” is appreciated, what isn’t is their disregard for what she wants. Constantly needing to remind them that she is the one in charge and not just a spokesperson is tiresome. Pulling rank on them doesn’t do much, but the power is slowly shifting in her favor, the lot of them becoming advisors. That’s what she’s working toward, anyway; A fact they’re fighting for all their worth because of her sex.

Fears:
  • Heights: Much to her father’s former chagrin, Vassenia is afraid of heights and has been since a young age. The airships that Atlygaea boasts are legendary, but she’s never once set foot in one, nor would she. The very thought of it going into the air while she’s looking around causes her to go lightheaded. Feet safe on the ground is where she’d rather stay.
  • Failure: A self-explanatory fear, she’s afraid that she’ll fail and what will happen if she does. The humans are outnumbered and, though they remain on good terms with those surrounding them, she doesn’t want to see a day where things go south.

Strengths:
  • Leadership: Where she’s had to compensate her entire life for being female, she’s overcome her inability to speak. When younger, she had a fear of leading, of what it would mean to be in the royal family and the responsibility that came with it. But, as she continued her lessons, got a better grip, she molded into the leader that Atlygaea needed, and is more than aptly prepared to run the kingdom as it should be.
  • Negotiation: Another thing taught her, negotiations is something she excelled at. It was another chance to prove she wasn’t just a “thing” to be looked at, but instead to be heard. To listen to whatever was needed, and find a happy middle ground for all parties involved. Where Atlygaea remains neutral on all fronts, this has helped maintain that neutrality no matter the conflict.
  • Compassion: Where she is a woman, she’s the first to admit her emotions play a part in her choices. Some would consider that a weakness, and, instead, she considers it a strength. It allows her to sympathize, to empathize, to forge deeper connections than she’d have otherwise had while trying to find resolutions for whatever arises, while thinking ahead for what would best serve her people.

Weaknesses:
  • Strength: At her station, she’s not had to do much of a physical nature, so her ability to lift and handle things is lowered. At best, she can throw her weight around to put what strength she does behind whatever defensive action she’s undertaking (however unlikely that is to be needed), but it’s there.
  • Attack/Defensive Maneuvers: Much of her trust is placed in her guards, her people, so hand-to-hand wasn’t something that was, or is, stressed with her.

Weaponry and Gear:
Vassenia has no weaponry to speak of, given her rank and stature. She’s not permitted to hold one, or touch one for that matter, as she’s a woman, and a woman from Indartir would never be caught holding such an object. Any other gear to speak of, her sketch book, charcoals, and the like are carried for her.

The only exception is during travel, and those around her are leery of it, regardless.

Training:
  • Diplomacy and Politics: Her training for this started at a young age. Despite her sex, she was given the training as there were no others to ascend to the throne. And, in her studies, she learned the various customs (those known) that need be observed when entertaining a diplomat from another kingdom, along with important parts of the language, so she’s not wholly dependent on a translator.
  • Rudimentary Akamu: She’s been slowly learning the language over the course of the years with the help of a tutor. Given the nature of the council and their like of withholding information, she wanted to be able to communicate with those necessary without help for the majority of the time, even if the sentences are broken.
  • Cartography: A skill picked up from her father, and reinforced by one of her teachers, she’s well adept at reading a map and finding her way about, in the event of an issue. It’s something that the Council felt silly, as she wasn’t to leave the kingdom, but the skill is handy nonetheless.

History: Character Biography (kept intentionally short)
Vassenia’s life was one of privilege, born into the royal family as their first, making her the eventual heir to the throne, to the kingdom. As much as she didn’t like her schedule, the countless hours spent studying and filling her head with the names and dates of people she considered unnecessary, she knew she had no room to complain. The kingdom would, one day, be hers as would its people. It was only fair and reasonable to learn all you could about it and the lands you’ve moved to.

What she did complain about was the lack of proper education about the surrounding kingdoms. Even with her in line to lead one day, they were reluctant to give her something of more substance, sure that a time would come when she’d be married and they could consult the husband over her, keeping her merely a figurehead.

    But she wouldn’t have it.

The more she pressed, the more they caved, still justifying it to themselves that the information would go unused, replaced with knowledge of galas, fashion and notable bachelors.

But, the day soon came that her mother fell ill. It was unexpected, the king keeping her separated from her mother while they sought treatment. They called in countless doctors, scientists, trying to figure out what it was that plagued her to such a degree. Nothing came of it, pumping her full of medication to ease her suffering until she passed away in her sleep. Her mother’s other name, Aeaca was then taken as her middle, thus causing her name to be longer than the norm, but through different (and accepted) circumstance.

Shortly thereafter, due to exposure, her father fell ill with the same, the doctors working tirelessly to figure out what it was and how to cure him so he’d not befall the same fate his wife had.

    Their efforts were in vain.

He soon passed, and the kingdom fell to her at the age of fifteen. The Council didn’t think she was ready for the responsibility, so they kept her out of decision making, stressing the need for more education and classes while they ran the kingdom in her stead. She was allowed to sit in on meetings for a while, to see what it was she’d be getting into, but her opinion went unheard and unheeded.

It wasn’t until early into her twenties that she decided she needed more, that she was ready to take up her rightful place, and was met with a hesitant and angered Council. It wasn’t until the previous year that she successfully took hold of the reigns and is trying to lead her kingdom in the way they deserve, with the council at her back nothing more than “advisors” that try to do things as they always have, working to keep her in the dark and continue their work as they always have.
